The Background Of Lizzy Grant and The Birth Of International Superstar ‘Lana Del Rey’

Elizabeth Woolridge Grant (Lana Del Rey) was born on June 21st 1985 in New York. As Lizzy hit her teenage years she started drinking heavily outside of her routine at a local Catholic School, which led her parents to send her away to boarding school in Connecticut. The star moved to New York City in 2005 at the age of 23 to live with her aunt and uncle alongside in Long Island, NYC and pursue her music career.

American singer, and songwriter Lana Del Rey first started performing under her real name ‘Lizzy Grant’. She performed at local gigs and open-mic nights in the evenings. Her first ever song released under this name was called ‘Young Like Me’ and was released in 2005. She later released a debut EP as ‘Lizzy Grant’ in 2008 called it ‘Kill Kill’. The then 23-year-old didn’t receive much recognition for her work throughout the 2000s.

Her first full album came out in 2010 and was called ‘Lana Del Rey AKA Lizzy Grant’ as the singer decided she then wanted to work under a new name. Lana Del Rey was then reborn as we know her today.

She shot to fame in 2011 under her new stage name ‘Lana Del Rey’ after producing her homemade music video for the song ‘Video Games’. The star found fame for her unique style of music and its cinematic quality. After the exposure of her viral music video, she signed to Polydor and Interscope.

In 2012 she appeared on Saturday Night Live and was ridiculed in the press for looking “nervous” and not performing well.

The star then released her hit single ‘Summertime Sadness’ in 2014 which later earned the star five Grammy nominees that year. The song was a tribute to the singer’s late best friend who took his life, and the sadness that the artist felt all summer. The song was then remixed by Gervais and won a Grammy.

Since her hit ‘Summertime Sadness’ the star has had nine studio albums, three extended plays, 38 singles, and 18 promotional singles. Some of her hit singles include:
